NON-cash gifts

STOCKS, DAFS AND PLANNED GIVING

We are grateful for cash donations, we also recognize that there are other meaningful ways to contribute that may better suit your circumstances. Hence, we have provided a list of alternative giving options below.

Stocks or Appreciated Assets

By donating stocks or appreciated assets, you can benefit from a win-win situation. When you gift appreciated stock directly to us, you can avoid paying capital gains taxes and also receive a tax deduction for the full fair market value of the stock. This enables you to donate more, reduce your tax burden, and support our cause simultaneously.

Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs)

If you’re 70½ years old or older, you have the option to transfer up to $100,000 per year from your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) directly to a qualified charity, such as United Way of Kershaw County. These distributions are not taxable and count towards your required minimum distributions (RMDs), offering a tax-efficient method of donation. While the RMD is not mandatory until age 73, the Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) can be especially advantageous for donors who do not itemize and opt for the standard deduction. It’s important to note that the QCD must be directly paid from your IRA to United Way of Kershaw County.

Grants from Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs)

If you possess a DAF, you have the option to suggest a grant to United Way of Kershaw County. DAFs enable you to obtain an immediate tax deduction upon contributing to the fund and subsequently propose grants to the charities of your choosing over time.

By including United Way in your will, you can enjoy the combined benefits of tax efficiency and philanthropy, providing an easy way to sustain your legacy of giving and impact.
