THE MOBILE NUTRITION CENTER

Created in 2017, the Mobile Nutrition Center (MNC) is a mobile food pantry that delivers healthy foods to sites in food deserts located in rural Kershaw County, SC. The MNC directly serves clients by removing barriers that prevent access to food like transportation and income. Through community partnerships, MNC delivers farm fresh, store-bought and even rescued food and grocery products like vegetables, meats, whole pastas and rice, and baked goods to food insecure people.
In 2020, the Mobile Nutrition Center delivered over 190,000 pounds of food to over 7000 food insecure individuals in the food deserts of Kershaw County.
The MNC Camden location is open Fridays 9:00am-12:00pm and the Elgin pantry location is open on Wednesday 8:30am – 11:00am. We encourage you to visit one of the distribution sites listed in the chart below.

COMMUNITY GARDENS
We have received a United States Department of Agriculture – Natural Resources Conservation Service (USDA-NRCS) grant that will allow us to establish 8 community gardens throughout Kershaw County. This initiative will help us to bring easily accessible, fresh and nutritious food to the county, with an emphasis on the underserved populations!
Starting this Spring, gardens will begin to be placed and planted in all throughout Kershaw County. The gardens will provide access to safe, nutritious, and secure food, expand outreach to increase awareness regarding healthy eating, and put an emphasis improving the health and well-being of Kershaw County residents!

FOODSHARE
Buy A FoodShare Box
The United way of Kershaw County Mobile Nutrition Center is proud to offer Food Share to Kershaw County. The Food Share program provides fresh Food Boxes to the community, and we accept CASH and SNAP EBT.
A box costs $15 if paying cash. If you are a SNAP participant and use your SNAP card to purchase your box, your SNAP will be charged only $5. The State of South Carolina then reimburses us the remainder of our cost through a program called Healthy Bucks.
Our system is unique. You can order Fresh Food Boxes from the United Way of Kershaw County. It’s a fun way to meet new people and get a box of good, wholesome food. Each Fresh Food Box includes a recipe card with great ideas on how to prepare items in your box.
